Vow of Silence
On Thursday, the SMS Human Rights Club will be sponsoring the Vow of Silence. Members of the Human Rights Club will be accepting donations for this event. The vow will signify the people who don't have a vocie to speak out for themselves. People around the school can sponsor us for this event.

Pump it Up Today and Tomorrow
We are here at the official opening of Pump it Up! The pump is being demonstrated to both the sixth and seventh grades. So far, the event has become a great hit and many people are becoming very interested in our great event.
The Human Rights Club is very proud to have the opportunity to open our Pumpo it Up activity tomorrow to any person in SMS who is willing to make the small $1 donation. We're hoping to get everyone involved with this issue. Students will have the opportunity to become the "M.C." of the Pump it Up activity for only $5.
We are hoping to get everyone's active participation. It makes the club proud to know that our participation is bringing the world one step closer to providing this essential resource to those in need!

Pump it Up
The Human Rights Club is getting ready for their first main event, Pump it Up! The event will be one of the most exciting ever done by the Human Rights Club.
The event will sponsor PlayPumps International, which you can read more about on previous blogs.
We will promote the idea of the PlayPump when the Human Rights Club walks around in a circle, which represents the PlayPump itself. The event will be demonstrated by the Human Rights Club on Wednesday, and the whole school will be able to participate in this exciting event on Thursday.

The Crisis in Darfur
The Darfur region of Sudan has been involved in a conflict for over three years. 400,000 people have been killed and almost 2 million people have been displaced from their homes. Many of these refugees currently reside in refugee camps in the neighboring nation of Chad.
But why is this happening? Starting in 2003, the government-backed militia called the Janjaweed has been fighting two groups in Darfur.
The President realizes this situation, but has not done much to stop these atrocities. António Guterres, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has recognized the Darfur conflict as "the largest and most complex humanitarian problem on the globe."
The UN Security Council has tried to stop the Sudanese government from funding the Janjaweed. However, the Janjaweed army still remains in Darfur.

The Water Crisis in Africa
As many of you know, the first issue that our club has decided to help is the water crisis in Africa. We chose PlayPumps International, a non-profit organization to donate our money to. But why do we need to donate money to the water crisis in Africa? The main reason is because there is a horrible lack of clean water in African countries. Did you know that 1.1 billion people around the world have no access to clean water?
Over 14,000 people each day die of water related diseases! Water related diseases are the leading cause of death in the world!
Our action benefiting PlayPumps International is just a start. Many people need to act and take a stand against this horrible crisis. Ordinary people have the ability to solve big problems.
